Adeyemo Olanike Kudirat born July 17,1970,is a Professor of Aquatic epidemiology and toxicology
Fish and Wildlife Unit,Department of Veterinary PublicHealth and Preventive Medicine,University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

 

Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo is a Professor in the Fish and Wildlife unit of the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She has a pioneering role as the first female in the field of Aquatic Veterinary Medicine in any Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Nigeria. Her research is focused on the epidemiology of fish diseases, fish food safety and consequent public health risk. Her contributions to scholarship has been accomplished through in-depth and holistic field and experimental research including health assessments of fish to indicate population and ecosystem condition and change based on analysis of biological indicators of stress, development of indices, predictive models and integrated research. She has also made significant contributions to scholarship in the field of aquatic toxicology by identifying biological effects of aquatic pollutants and environmental contaminants to fish and fish food safety. Her innovative use of geographic information system modelling and techniques makes her findings adaptable and applicable to regions outside her study area; Her research efforts has therefore provided research-based information to aid the development of the Nigerian aquaculture industry as well as provide the Federal Government of Nigeria with research evidenced basis for policy development and implementation on aquaculture development, aquatic system conservation, seafood safety and public health.
Prof. Adeyemo's commendable contribution to scholarship in an under-represented field has earned her several recognitions. She was elected Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences in 2012; selected to the membership of Global Young Academy of Inter-academies panel (IAP) In December of 2011; appointment to the roster of experts of the Joint FAO/WHO Committee on Food Additives (JECFA, 2011-2015), elected Fellow of African Scientific Institute (ASI), Oakland, California, USA and listed in the 2011 edition of “Black Achievers in Science and Technology”, a publication which recognizes the achievement of excellence of each fellow in his/her field. Professor Olanike Adeyemo was selected to represent Nigeria as a Fellow on the Eisenhower Fellowship's common interest programme, bringing together emerging leaders from different countries of the world to deliberate on challenges of urbanization. She is a Fellow of Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD), International, UK and a member of several professional societies and scientific Institutions. She has over 80 peer-reviewed publications as chapter in book, policy brief, technical reports, conference proceedings and peer-reviewed journal articles. She has executed several contracted scientific research projects, and consultancy services on aquaculture development, fish food safety, aquatic pollution assessment and climate change impact/vulnerability assessment for aquatic systems. Prof. Adeyemo has active collaborations in Africa, Asia, North America and Europe. She is currently utilizing a Schlumberger Foundation Fellowship on sabbatical at the Center for Environmental and Human toxicology, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, USA until July 31st 2015, when she will be resuming at the University of Ibadan
